Personal Trainer App
To design a mobile application that allows personal trainers to find their own clients based on their schedule and disrupt the monopoly that gyms have in the personal training booking process.
March 2021 - June 2021
In order for a personal trainer to get a high access to clients they must go through a gym. This gives trainers very little bargaining power or say on how to service and what to offer their clients.
Most research had to be conducted through secondary research. With Nowly being an innovative idea with extreme potential, the stakeholders wanted the process to be undisclosed. User interviews were not allowed to be conducted and there was no research budget. We looked into how personal trainers get their clients, what their pain points are, and how to motivate these trainers to use an app as the success of the Nowly app hangs on the quality of the trainers they offer.
Hours
Trainers only get paid for the time that they are training, this means countless hours at gyms waiting for a session to come their way. There’s a lot of wasted hours with no pay.
Income
Trainers only take a small cut of each session they take. If they work for a gym or pay rent at a gym this mean significantly lower returns.
Sales/Convincing
Clients are easy to find, this means signifcant effort is made in convincing people to take sessions and to stick to the sessions they are taking. With plenty of free training videos online it becomes even harder convince people to train.
Investments
Between maintaining certifications and paying rent for gyms, the expenses for a personal trainer are generally very high.
We looked at the trainer side of the nowly app as more of an instant calendar app. This means that trainers can just turn on when they’re available for the algorithm to match up with them. And give them some autonomy to book their own sessions ahead of time. This would eliminate the need
Taurist was also given the task to design the logo, voice, and user interface, Check out our Nowly Branding Case Study to see more on how we chose the fonts, colors, identitiy, voice, and logo of this brand.
After the branding was completed we knew exactly what kind of colors we wanted to use, how we wanted the artwork to be, and what the theme/voice of the app experience would be like. So we began to design the interface.
We had to consider what the icons would look like, what our navigation would operate. How would we get the information accross to the users so that the app was as easy to understand as possible?
With the wireframe prepared and the User Interface prepared it was time to put together a high fidelity prototype for the stakeholders to see. The goal was to make it as fun as possible to trainers, and reward the trainers who returned. We made a Ranking system that allowed trainers to compete with other trainers in order to receive bonuses. Accepting a session and changing your status should all be done from the homepage. This would allow trainers to respond quickly and keep the app running smoother for users on the other side.
Screens have become a big part of our lives recently and with this comes the need to give users a break from the bright LED screens we carry on our pockets on a daily basis. That’s why we chose to design a “Dark version” of the app for users who prefer darker screens.
Nowly’s MVP phase is set to launch in the first quarter of 2022 with this phase allowing us to perform firsthand user testing as well as interviews. With the information gathered we aim to further develop the app and apply some real world data to the design solutions we implement.
The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.
A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!
Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
